2022-2023 Update
We are finally back! Although we all realize that the pandemic is not completely over, many are able to get back to some normal activities.
CREE was able to send 35 students and their chaperones to Wisconsin this January. The biggest problem was U. S. Visas as the U. S. Embassy in San José has not been giving Visa appointments and it is unsure of when appointment dates will be available. That does not affect students traveling to Costa Rica in June-July, so we have many U. S. travelers scheduled to visit us then.
For 2023 we already have 10 schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota ready to accept students in January. We have formed a WhatsApp group here in Costa Rica for schools wanting to travel next January and will be finalizing those schools in mid-March.
We will provide updates to the U. S. Visa situation here and on our Facebook page as information becomes available.
If you would like more information about how your school can participate in an exchange or a 1-way program, please contact us.

Welcome to CREE!
Costa Rica Education Exchange (CREE) was founded on the principles that student and adult international travel programs enhance language learning, heighten cultural understanding and change lives. CREE achieves those objectives through cultural immersion, introduction to host country’s natural, educational and artistic offerings, and the creation of long lasting friendships. We do that while offering our programs for the best value of anyone in the student travel arena.
We believe in and hold as core values:
We believe in and hold as core values:
- affordability by offering high value at low cost to all participants

- quality in every service that we offer
- the importance of conservation of natural resources
We understand that student travel is a very serious matter and treat every visitor and potential visitor like a VIP from the moment that they contact us.
Our Program
CREE currently offers a High School Student Exchange Home-Stay Program
High School Student Exchange Home-Stay Program
The Student Exchange Home-Stay Program is primarily for high school students from the ages of 13 through 17 who would like to participate in a cultural, educational and recreational exchange program between their school(s) and school(s) in Costa Rica. Normally a two week program, students are carefully matched with host families during a family-student matching process before the student commits to the program. Students will take day trips with their host to such places as Isla Tortuga, Arenal volcano and hot springs, La Paz Waterfalls and Gardens and museum tour in the capital city of San José. They will also visit the host student's school if it is in session and attend welcoming and departure parties.
For Costa Rica students traveling to the United States the program is similar with students visiting points of interest specific to the host school-community.
Programs can be unilateral or bilateral and a traveling school does not have to commit to accepting students from host school.
